Mat lives in Manning with his wife Linda and their two boys. Linda is a school teacher at Manning Primary School.

Mat has many strong community ties via his great passion for AFL football. He is a premiership coach at Manning JFC and is the current Director of Football at WAFL club Perth. Mat is also heavily involved with the Footy Champs program that provides a platform for disabled children to take part.
